Worldwide leader in the publishing and commercialisation of cultural products and major reference works, in traditional and digital formats

This is the most important company in the direct sales division of Grupo Planeta, the leader in its sector in Europe and, with its subsidiaries in Portugal and Latin America, worldwide leader in the commercialisation of major works. It boasts a network of 24 branch and sales offices all around Spain, from which a thousand professionals are coordinated. Founded in 1956, in over half a century of activity it has been a pioneer in the publication of works with audiovisual complements and the introduction of digital formats. It maintains alliances with world-famous imprints and institutions of prestige such as Unesco, Disney, BBC, Philips, LG and Toshiba.

In 2009 it consolidated the “educational tool” concept and broadened it to teaching centres with an online edition of the Gran Enciclopedia Planeta and specific sections for students and teachers. Initially, this novel educational concept, based on the integration of books, Internet and a portable computer with the multimedia work, was launched for families with children of school age.

In September 2009 it launched a new Joya de Editor: Cartas a Theo, by Vincent Van Gogh, in collaboration with the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam, which includes the facsimile reproduction of 35 letters, trimmed one by one according to the original, and a display unit in satinised aluminium and laminated glass. La Joya de Editor is a high quality work, limited and numbered, which links an original artwork with bibliographic complements and luxury presentation.

In May of this year, the catalogue of major works was extended with Las grandes creaciones del hombre, by American historian Daniel J. Boorstin. The original work was been enriched with a spectacular photographic gallery that includes documents that are published for the first time in a work of these characteristics. It includes a selection of 20 major documentaries on DVD.

The educational project El libro de nuestra escuela has celebrated ten years in the 2009-2010 academic year, with over 1,100 titles published, written by over 330,000 primary school pupils. It is the most important reading and writing project in Spain.
