Ariel was founded in 1942 and soon became one of the reference publishers in the field of essays, academic publications and popular science. Four decades after its creation it joined Grupo Planeta.

At Ariel, all thought-related disciplines find their place. Given its prestige and adaptation to current circumstances in the publishing and cultural world, it acts as a link between essayists, popular science authors and all those readers who want to enjoy the pleasure of books.

Among its most prominent authors this year are Fernando Savater, José Antonio Marina – with a very personal and novel online books project (Biblioteca UP, Lo que padres y docentes deben saber) – Francisco Rodríguez Adrados, Philippe Meirieu, Roger Scruton, Vicente Botín, Julián Casanova, Robert Tornabell, Raymond Carr, Margaret MacMillan, Claudi Alsina and Toby Thacker, among many others.

A new collection, Ariel Actual, has recently been incorporated into the catalogue and is aimed at readers with a need for current affairs knowledge and discussion tools.
