Grupo Planeta

Editorial Planeta Uruguay

Leader in the local market with its own and international editions

Editorial Planeta Uruguay commenced its activity in late 1994, distributing the publishing backlists of Grupo Planeta, especially the production of Planeta Argentina. The development of its distribution enabled it to reach every corner of the country and achieve a leading position in the Uruguayan cultural market.

With its project to invigorate the book and culture market, Planeta Uruguay tours the country, visits libraries inland with updated bibliographic information, organises presentations of international authors and constantly promotes the creation of readers’ clubs. In parallel, it maintains its joint activity with the National Academy of Letters to introduce and make known the works of the RAE (Spanish Royal Academy) at different points in the country.

On a local country level, many authors have found in Editorial Planeta the possibility of making themselves known or of consolidating their literature. Some of the most successful Uruguayan writers in recent times have been Ana Ribeiro, Fernando Butazzoni, Julio César Castro, Lincoln Maiztegui, Mercedes Vigil, Néstor Ganduglia and Walter Dresel, among others.
